Water Unit

The Water Unit consists of 23 engaged colleagues with various areas of expertise. The unit is responsible for processing water activities, grant management for local water conservation measures, assignments in water and fishing issues, implementation of several water directives, the national plan for modern environmental conditions for hydropower, water protection areas, collaboration in drinking water supply, wetland coordination, coordination of national marine area protection, action programs for water-related endangered species, water-related environmental goals, aquatic invasive species, and coordination of environmental monitoring and liming.

The unit consists of 4 more defined working groups that exchange a lot of information among themselves. There is also extensive cross-sectoral work, together with other units at the County Administrative Board.

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for someone who wants to work with legislation related to measures in and near water. These measures affect natural values/public interests as well as private interests, and it will be your task to assess based on the applicant's description whether and how the measure can be implemented. You will, among other things, process cases related to wetlands, water extraction, irrigation ponds, bridges, docks, and various types of infrastructure projects such as cable laying, road construction, and new water supply networks, in the parts that affect watercourses or water areas. You will be part of a group of knowledgeable water activity administrators. Within our group, processing of biotope protection exemptions and shoreline protection exemptions may also be included. The position primarily includes the following types of cases:

• Notification and supervision cases regarding measures and facilities in water.
• Consultation according to Chapter 6 of the Environmental Code prior to the permit review of water activities.
• Application cases regarding permit-required water activities where you represent the County Administrative Board through statements and negotiations in the Land and Environment Court.
• Cases related to hydropower linked to the National Plan for Modern Environmental Conditions.
• Fieldwork and other tasks within the unit.

We help each other with all tasks that exist in the unit, and the authority's assignments may also mean that more tasks than those described in the advertisement become relevant.

Qualifications

Relevant scientific university degree with a focus on aquatic ecology/limnology/biology or equivalent that we consider comparable.

We are primarily looking for someone with work experience in supervision and assessment according to the Environmental Code related to water activities. You may also have work experience in government work related to measures in water that we assess as valuable for the position.

As a person, you need to have a good ability to approach complex issues in an analytical and structured manner based on both legal and factual matters. We place great importance on your personal suitability, that your qualities complement the work group, and your ability to contribute to a good working environment. It is important that you can take responsibility for tasks based on common priorities and guidelines. You should be good at working independently but also enjoy working in a group.

You must have a B driver's license. You also need to have a very good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing, and be proficient in the Office package.
